Virtual Composition & Negative Space

I often use negative space or blank canvas in my work as an integral part of the composition. Sometimes it is as important as the colored areas in the rest of the painting. Negative space can draw the eye to a particular section, balance the composition or simply allow the colors more space to breathe.

You may notice in this work (Isness 5), how the lower blank area of the canvas is massive enough to balance the entire composition and form a base for the rest of the painting to rest upon.
